People- and environment-friendly packaging

One of the key directions of the Business Strategy of Dr. Miele Cosmed Group S.A.—within the sustainable development pillar—is the management of the circular economy (CE) area. In the era of the EU Taxonomy, CSRD, increasing consumer awareness, and the fight against greenwashing, we recognise that the competitiveness of products is no longer based solely on increasing the amount of recycled content in packaging or reducing production waste. Today, the market—from legislators to buyers and consumers—expects a much broader, non-selective, holistic approach grounded in transparent indicators. For this reason, we have set ambitious annual goals that define our pathway towards a more circular economy.

Goal 1: 70% of the mass of purchased paper must come from recycling (percentage of mass in a given year compared to the total mass of purchased paper).

Goal 2: 30% of the mass of plastic packaging is made from recycled material (mass in kg in a given year compared to the total mass of purchased plastic packaging).

Goal 3: At least 90% of production waste is transferred for recycling.

Progress towards these goals is reported annually in the Sustainability Statement.

A supporting tool in our journey towards more sustainable packaging is the Product Development Guidelines (PDG 2.0) in the spirit of the circular economy—an internal document developed by the members of the ESG Council of Dr. Miele Cosmed Group S.A. and employees of various Departments during internal and external consultations. It helps systematize our knowledge about a product’s impact at each stage of the value chain and implement measurable actions that improve its economic, environmental, and social impact.

The Guidelines take the waste management hierarchy as their starting point, which serves as our inspiration for undertaking concrete actions. Importantly, many of the elements operate at the intersection of different Departments, and it is the combined Teams that are responsible for developing optimal solutions.

Our goal is to introduce packaging that is recyclable, aligned with the current structure of collection and material recovery systems, and economically viable.

In parallel with adopting the principles and targets for product packaging, improvements are also being implemented for bulk and transport packaging.

All details regarding our activities are published annually in the Sustainability Statement of the Capital Group.
